Federalist Intergroup in the European Parliament
Uniting European Democracy
The Federalist Intergroup unites MEPs from all parties committed to building a united democratic Europe. One of the longest standing intergroups in the Parliament, its first president was Altiero Spinelli.
The Intergroup has played a key part in forging collaboration between the political groups on the major constitutional items. It was very active during the Convention on the Future of Europe.
Now chaired by Andrew Duff (ALDE/UK), the Federalist Intergroup has kept a watching brief on the IGCs and the ratification processes that culminated in the Treaty of Lisbon.
Its work programme in the Parliament of 2009-14 includes the promotion of:
- early, full and efficient implementation of the Lisbon treaty
- reform of the financial system of the European Union
- electoral reform of the European Parliament
- encouraging participatory democracy
- institutional challenges of EU enlargement
By the end of the mandate we will make proposals for the further constitutional development of the Union.
The Federalist Intergroup has no commercial sponsorship. It is supported by the Union of European Federalists (UEF) and the Young European Federalists (JEF).
